Quick Overview

Preventic offers protection from Paralysis Ticks for up to 2 months, whereas many other products only offer up to 3 weeks protection or have to be used daily or every second day to maintain any protection.

Product Description

The tick does not need to bite the dog to be killed by Preventic. Preventic not only kills ticks but it also detaches the tick before they infect. This means little or no toxin exposure to the dog.

Long acting protection
Preventic offers protection from Paralysis Ticks for up to 2 months, whereas many other products only offer up to 3 weeks protection or have to be used daily or every second day to maintain any protection.

Ease of use / Low cost
Preventic is easy to use and inexpensive and, even if a dog owner is using another form of Tick prevention, it is reasonable that they also consider the inexpensive extra insurance of a Preventic collar. There is an annual fatality rate of 1000 dogs or more attributed to the Paralysis Tick in Australia each year. Preventic is a small price to pay for insurance against this threat.

Safe when used with flea prevention treatments
More and more people are now using combinations of insecticides and tickicides. Virbac has assessed the safety of Preventic when combined with a number of other products. Whilst such combinations are considered "off label" they were demonstrated as safe when assessed.

Preventic is a collar that uses a unique compound as a specific tickicide to provide ongoing protection of dogs from the deadly Paralysis Tick (Ixodes Holocyclus). Preventic collar uses a slow release technology that allows the active ingredient to be slowly released from the collar over 2 months at a consistent rate every day. The collar prevents the attachment of paralysis ticks during this period.

Active constituents
- Amitraz: 9%

Amitraz migrates on the skin and hair coat of the dog. The ingredient is slowly released from the moment the collar is fitted to the dog and diffuses over the dog within 24 hours. Preventic collars remain effective for 2 months. Preventic is not an insecticide; therefore other means must be used for flea control. Amitraz inhibits the tick from "feeding" on dogs: the tick’s sharp, barbed mouth parts become paralysed and cannot pierce the skin.

1 collar of 27.5 g (72 cm)

How does Preventic work?
The collar contains the very effective active ingredient, Amitraz that kills and detaches paralysis tick by contact. Amitraz is progressively released from a slow release matrix within the collar.

How long does it takes to work?
Preventic will work in a few hours, but it will take approximately 48 hours to reach its maximum level of efficacy, depending on the coat and hair condition of the dog.

From what age can Preventic be put on a dog?
Preventic is recommended for use on dogs from 3 months of age.

Are you sure it’s going to fit my St Bernard?
Yes, the neck size of the collar is 75cm. It will fit any size dog.

Can my dog still go swimming?
Yes, even if it diminishes in efficacy during the swim, Preventic will continuously release its actives, and effective levels will be re-established after the swim.

Should I treat my environment as well as my pet?
Yes, it is highly recommended for controlling any flea problems that your dog may have. It will stop your pet from being constantly re-infested with fleas. Use Protect-A-Home Premises Spray or Mist.
